Building Custodian (P/T)

Duties:
-Perform and complete maintenance duties of an assigned housing/commercial units within the District
-Preform and complete day-to-day preventative maintenance duties to ensure that preservation of housing/commercial stock
-Preform and complete cleaning, life safety checks, ground maintenance, minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical, trouble shooting and problem solving within assigned complexes
-Work with Housing Operations team to ensure housing complexes are maintained in accordance with Various Codes, Acts and established standards, policies and procedures
-All other assigned duties

Qualifications:
-GED/OSSD or equivalent required
-Two year’s experience in building maintenance
-Ability to work flexible hours
-Valid Ontario Driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required
-Must be legally able to work in Canada
-Criminal reference check within three months is required
-Completion of a physical demands test is required by successful candidate
-Interpersonal and communication skills required
-WHIMS Certification and CPR/First Aid Certificate
-Mould Remediation would be an asset
-Knowledge of Residential Tenancies Act and Occupational Health and Safety practices
-Knowledge of building maintenance, electrical and plumbing systems
-Knowledge and understand of applicable Building Code requirements and Fire Codes
-Knowledge of operation and maintenance of various tools and equipment
-Ability to preform a broad range of maintenance repairs
-Proficiency in the use of tools and equipment required to preform the functions of position
-Ability to work indendepently and within a team
-Ability to respect confidentiality of tenants and staff
-Ability to relate to others in a tactful and professional manner
-Ability to operate equipment and use products in a safe manner
-Ability to trouble shoot and problem solve
-Ability to use applications including Microsoft Office Suite, Property Management systems and mobile devices, including cellphones and tablets
-Ability to work in stressful, fast-paced environments and recognize emergency situations
-Ability to maintain composure, compassion and understanding during challenging situations
-Ability to deal with a diverse client group with tact and diplomacy
-Excellent organizational skills are required to organize and schedule daily work or tasks, while being sensitive to time constraints and resource availability. Will often be required to work toward meeting tight deadlines
