LINC Instructor

One aspect of teaching LINC that I find incredibly rewarding is watching my learners' personalities blossom in a second language as they go along their language learning journey.

Their progress isn’t just in English grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary—I see friendships forming, students supporting each other, jokes being shared, and their laughter filling the room.

Moving to a new country, leaving behind everything that is familiar, is a bold and courageous step to take, and I believe that the LINC program helps to lessen the cultural isolation newcomers may experience and ease their transition into a new language and cultural environment.

We make memories every day at LINC!

Our most memorable success story is from the month we focused on employment in Canada. We learned about strategies for answering interview questions using the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) model. The class chose job interview questions, prepared answers, and practiced answering the questions with a partner.

Then, we held a mock job interview for one of our students who happened to have an especially important job interview, role-playing different scenarios and offering feedback and encouragement.

A week later, they had secured the job!

The collective effort of the students and determination not only improved their English skills but also boosted their confidence in professional settings.

What I enjoy most about living in North Bay is being able to experience all four seasons in its spectacular natural surroundings.

I am an insect enthusiast, and I remember being blown away by the beauty of shadflies my first summer here! When I'm not teaching, I'm either walking or baking. On weekends, I love going on long walks and hikes (great way to get acquainted with the diverse species of insects present in the region) and baking cakes from all around the world (great way to replenish all of the energy lost on the long hikes).
